George Camilleri has wide interests, including writing, drama, sports and music. His first publication (1981) was Realms of Fantasy: Folk Tales from Gozo - an anthology of folk tales from his island home of Gozo, near Malta in the Mediterranean. This book has been translated into German and Hungarian. His short story The Last Peregrine (1997) won third prize in a national writing contest and was published in an anthology of fiction. He is an active member of the ‘Poetry on Gozo’ circle, which meets every month in Gozo and attracts poets of diverse nationalities residing on or visiting the island.

Camilleri has followed a career in the teaching of English and has studied in Malta and at the University of London. He works as an Education Officer in Malta and has published various works of educational interest, including Learner Autonomy – The Teachers’ Views (1999, Council of Europe), now also in French.

Camilleri plays the flute, has performed on stage and television, and is an avid tennis player. He is married to Helen and has four children.
