George Murray’s four critically acclaimed books of poetry include The Rush to Here (Nightwood, 2007), The Hunter (McClelland & Stewart, 2003), and The Cottage Builder's Letter (McClelland & Stewart, 2001). He has been widely anthologized and has published poems in magazines and anthologies in Canada and the United States, as well as in Australia, Britain, and Europe. He is a former poetry editor for the Literary Review of Canada and is a contributing editor for several journals, including Canadian Notes & Queries, Maisonneuve, and The Drunken Boat. He regularly reviews poetry and fiction for the Globe and Mail. He has won or been short-listed for several awards, including the Atlantic Poetry Prize (2007), the PIP Gertrude Stein Award for Innovative Poetry (2006), and the New York Festivals Radio and Television Award for Best Writing for a broadcast poem commissioned by the CBC (the only time the award has been won for poetry). He has also been on the part time faculty at New School University and Humber College. He has lived in Toronto, New York City, and rural Italy, but now lives in St. John’s, Newfoundland where is the editor of the popular literary website Bookninja.com. |
