Inside The Mind Of A Teenager

You’re like a newly lit flame
A few blows of the wind and you still won’t burn out

What’s present is the will power to take on anything
To do as you please and never look back

Suddenly, your control is withdrawn and you are forced to submit
Like a criminal caught in the act

Except you’ve done nothing wrong
It’s simply who you are

You’re led to believe that your thoughts are invalid
What you feel does not matter
While your questions are left unanswered

The only justification is a lack experience
When you’re thrown into the adult world

You have a gift waiting to be unwrapped
But it is unseen to those around you

How you reason is immeasurable
With the ability to distinguish lies and truth
Like heavy black stone and crystal clear water

It’s not easy to correct the contradictions
When you’re stuck inside a tunnel struggling to get out

Open your eyes to reality and soon after you’ll be paralyzed
It’s obvious that convenience overrules the facts

Yet never forget what you have to offer
And think although it is unaccepted

The unknown is feared
But have your life reveal that it might just be a glimpse of heaven

To all adults devaluing the mind of a teenager–
Who will be left to lead the way when you are gone?
