May Ng was born in the Southern Shan State of Burma. She grew up learning about the culture of gentle hill tribes, and Burmese literature. She left Burma in 1976 as a college student and has been living in New York since. She has written poems for Aung San Suu Kyi's website as well as Burma Digest, and essays for Mizzima, a Burmese news journal in exile.
