I have made my living as a ranch hand or rancher all of my adult life. My ranch work put me through college. My cowboy poetry is a diary of my ranching experiences, generally focusing on animals and family. I have a web site: terryhenderson.net. In my first marriage, I had two loving children, a son and a daughter. My husband died of an aneurysm when I was 26. I married his cousin four years later. (He went around our small town telling people he was marrying his cousin.) He worked in town as the county agricultural extension agent. I worked on our ranch. Very few small families in production agriculture (ranching and farming) can make it these days without supplemental income from off the ranch. My son was killed in a car accident at 19. Both my husband and myself developed cancer within four years of that incident. We are both fully recovered. I am now blessed with five grandchildren, three from my daughter and two from my stepdaughter. People may quickly judge that I have had a tough life, but I have been given many gifts, of which faith is my most prized. |
