Questions Arising

There's a sordid tale in town, brother
Go to Jangebe:
Was he a victim of a just law
Of a society riddled with injustice?

Scan the hierarchy,
Do you hear
Echoes of celebrated tales
Of rich beneficiaries
Lazing on our banks of gold
Untouched by the just law
Of an unjust society

And I ask,
Are they no more worthy
Of amputation
Than the gilded garlands
Hung round their robust necks, brothers?

Jangebe was the first amputee victim of the Sharia law in Zamfara State, Nigeria.
