A Winter Reverie

Silently, as the snow
settles by night on homes
that seem asleep,
into our lives they come,
out of our lives they go,
loves we cannot keep.

They are enough
to build a dream upon,
so we embrace them,
heart obscuring reason,
these transitory glories
of a season–

embrace them, for we know
we will awake one dawn
to find them gone,
silently, like the snow...
