Michael E. Stone has lived in Jerusalem, since 1960 and has taught at the Hebrew University since 1966. His early life was spent in Australia where he attended school and University. He has also lived abroad, notably in the United States and the Netherlands. In addition to writing poetry, he is a professor of Armenian Studies and Comparative Religion and has published about 50 academic books and several hundred scholarly articles in the fields of Ancient Judaism and Armenian Studies.

His literary translation of the medieval Armenian Adam Epic, the "Adamgirk'" by Arak'el of Siwnik' (early 15th century) is will be published early next year by Oxford University Press. This work of nearly 6,000 lines of poetry has been called an Eastern Christian Paradise Lost. In addition to the Adam Epic, he has published translations of other medieval Armenian poets, particularly of the lyric tradition.

His own poetry has appeared in a range of literary journals and anthologies in Israel and abroad.
