Born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, J. Marcus Weekley has lived in six states and three countries (Germany, the Phillipines, and the U.S). Weekley began writing and photographing in high school, and has been publishing ever since. Shortly before that, Weekley became a Christian, a decision that has affected his life ever since.

Weekley worked as a photojournalist for The Student Printz, the University of Southern Mississippi student paper, and has freelanced for The Beloit Daily News, ArtLies!, and HubStuff. Weekley graduates from Texas Tech University in May of 2006 with his PhD in English. He earned his B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2001 and 2002 respectively.

His writing has appeared, or is forthcoming, in Agenda (Broadsheets online), Quick Fiction, Poetry Salzburg Review, 3 A.M., and The Iowa Review, among other places. His photographs accompany the narrative essays of Gail Folkins in Dance Hall Revival, a book examining Texas dance hall culture forthcoming from Texas Tech University Press in 2007.
