Edi Shukriu (poet, playwright, professor, politician; b.1950,r. Kosova), the first Kosovar women to publish book of poetry in the Albanian language, teaches archaeology and ancient history at the University of Prishtina. Her literary work includes seven books of poetry and three plays as well as several scientific publications. She participated at the International Writing Program of the University of Iowa in 2005. She was member of Parliament of Kosova (1992-1998; 2000-2004), Co-Head of Department of Culture – UNMIK (2000-2002); President of Women's Forum of LDK (1995-2000); diplomat in the Foreign Ministry (1991-1998); member of the Presidency of the Democratic League of Kosova (LDK); established the region's first women's democratic organization, the Women's Forum (1990), and co-founded the Democratic Alternative of Kosova (2004 -), being its Vice-President.
