Alan Jefferies was born in Brisbane and grew up in Cleveland, on the Queensland coast.

He lived in Sydney and Coalcliff during the 1980's and holds degrees in Communication and Writing from the University of Technology, Sydney.

In 1998 he moved to Hong Kong where he now lives and works. He was one of the initiators of a spoken word event in Hong Kong called, OutLoud. In 2002 he helped compile an anthology of poetry from the OutLoud readings.

He has published four books of poetry and several children's books. His poems have been translated into Arabic and Chinese. In 2005 he participated in a reading tour of Egypt.
